The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in the Catholic Diocese of Solwezi recently launched ‘A Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity in the World’ campaign 2025. This initiative aimed to encourage school children to participate in a global prayer movement that recognises the Rosary as a powerful spiritual tool to foster peace and unity worldwide.

During the Holy Mass to launch ‘A Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity in the World’, held on the Marian feast of Our Lady of the Rosary at St. Daniel Cathedral Parish in the provincial city of Solwezi, Fr. Wilbroad Musonda, Diocesan Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS), emphasised the importance of children praying the Rosary. He particularly highlighted the power of children’s prayers as a source of hope and strength.
Emulate Our Blessed Mother
“When children pray the rosary with innocence and pure hearts, their prayers are readily received by God,” Fr. Musonda stated. He urged the children to pray with confidence, assuring them that “your prayers as children are always heard.”
Fr. Musonda also encouraged the children to emulate the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary, “our mother, whose life was characterised by love, kindness, and compassion,” he said.
The Solwezi Diocese launch featured school children from four local schools: Tarcisia Floriana (Tarflo) Convent School, St. Daniel Convent School, Bambino Convent School, and Leonard Cheshire Convent School. The children participated in a special Mass, sang melodious Marian songs, and prayed the Rosary together. During the event, rosaries were also blessed and distributed to the learners.
Pope Leo: Pray the Rosary in October
The campaign, ‘A Million Children Praying the Rosary for Peace and Unity in the World,’ is organised globally by the Pontifical Foundation Aid to the Church in Need (ACN). Inspired by the words of St. Padre Pio, who believed that “when one million children pray the Rosary, the world will change,” the initiative has grown into a significant spiritual movement, involving schools, parishes, and families across different continents.
October is dedicated to the Holy Rosary in the Catholic Church. It is a time for the faithful to pray the Rosary to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and meditate on the mysteries of Christ’s life.
During the Wednesday General Audience on 24 September 2025, Pope Leo XIV called on Catholics worldwide to join in praying the Rosary every day throughout October.
“I invite everyone, each day of the coming month (October), to pray the Rosary for peace—personally, in families, and in communities,” he urged.
