Iran says the intelligence chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Majid Khademi, was killed Monday morning in a U.S.-Israeli strike.
Israel later claimed responsibility, according to reports.
In a statement on Telegram, the Israel Defense Forces called the killing “another severe blow” to the IRGC.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump appeared to set a deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by early Tuesday.
In a profanity‑laden message targeting Iranian infrastructure, Trump said Tuesday “will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran.”
Iran warned that any response would be “much more devastating.”
Lebanon under attack and global insecurity
Meanwhile, attacks continued across the region, including in Iran, Israel and Lebanon.
Israeli airstrikes hit areas from southern Lebanon to Beirut’s eastern districts, with no pause reported.
At least 11 people were killed across Lebanon on Sunday.
The IDF has issued a new warning to residents in Beirut’s southern suburbs.
The conflict — and the near-halt of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz — has raised concerns about an energy crunch for developing nations in Africa and South Asia, which rely heavily on imported liquefied gas, food, and fertilisers.
