Vatican News

From October 28 to 31, 2025, the International Youth Advisory Body (IYAB) will meet in Rome at the offices of the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life. The IYAB is an advisory body whose purpose is to bring to the Holy See the perspectives of young people on various issues that are central to the mission of the Church.

Topics of conversation

The meeting will bring together the members of the second group of young people—appointed in 2024—and follows on from the first meeting, which took place last December. Several topics will be addressed during the four-day meeting, from preparations for World Youth Day in Seoul in 2027, to reflections on the evangelization of young people in family contexts, to ways of linking youth ministry and family ministry, to the relevance of the post-synodal apostolic exhortation Christus vivit in today’s social contexts. The meeting will also include a visit to the ‘Borgo Laudato Si’’.

Participation, synodality, and mission will be the basis of these reflections, which will take the form of conversations in the Spirit. There will be groups for sharing reflections and practical experiences for developing proposals, in order to create a real workshop that will provide the Dicastery with concrete lines of action.

The activities of the IYAB

Since 2018, following the explicit request of the Final Document of the Synod on Young People, 20 young people from different regions of the world and various international movements, associations, and communities have been contributing to the Pope’s collaborators in the Roman Curia. They use a synodal style to explore issues related to youth ministry and other topics of general interest. As a “spokesperson” for young people, the IYAB offers the Dicastery for Laity, Family, and Life—as well as other dicasteries that request its advice—consultative and proactive support on behalf of young people, especially those who are most vulnerable, poor, or alone, but also all those who live on the margins or have difficulty accessing educational and employment opportunities.
