Peru’s political situation is volatile, following the removal of the president via a vote of no confidence by Congress.

The reason given for the removal of President Dina Boluarte was quote: “Moral incapacity.” Her approval rating stands and falls at less than five percent. 122 of 130 legislators voted her out. Congressional leader José Jeri has been voted in as interim President. Congress is now voting whether to impeach Boluarte.
This happened to her predecessor Pedro Castillo. One catalyst was her decision in July to double her salary, which was thirty five times the minimum wage amidst a depressed and struggling economy, in a country challenged and plagued by a high crime rate. Boluarte was Peru’s sixth leader since 2018. Three are in prison.
There have been hundreds of anti government protests. The political writing is on the wall.
