U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has agreed to a 20-point plan proposed by the Trump administration aimed at ending the conflict in Gaza.
The 20-point proposal calls for an end to hostilities, the return of Israeli hostages, and the creation of an international “Board of Peace” to help govern Gaza.
The board would include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
The plan also outlines an interfaith dialogue initiative aimed at promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence between Palestinians and Israelis.
Hamas leaders are expected to take a few days to give their response to the plan.
It also demands that Hamas disarms – something it’s previously rejected unless there’s a sovereign Palestinian state.
Netanyahu apologizes for airstrike in Qatar
In a separate development, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued an apology to Qatar for a recent airstrike in Doha.
The rare gesture came during a trilateral phone call with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani and U.S. President Donald Trump, and is seen as key to maintaining Qatar’s role as a mediator in the conflict.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defence Forces said its air force struck more than 140 targets across Gaza in the past 24 hours, including militant cells, military facilities, and anti-tank positions.
