An event to highlight and strengthen the role of media in promoting cultural dialogue in the Mediterranean area: on 16 October 2025, the historic Palazzo Reale in Naples will host the Mediterranean Leadership Summit, a high-level gathering co-organized by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and RAI – Radiotelevisione Italiana, within the framework of the MED Dialogues.
The summit will be opened by Noel Curran, Director General of the EBU. The chosen theme, “The Mediterranean: A Meeting Place”, reflects the region’s essential vocation as a crossroads of civilizations and cultures.
The event will underscore the vital role of Public Service Media (PSM) in promoting democratic values, intercultural understanding, and peace-building — especially in a time marked by growing instability and global challenges, such as those unfolding in the Middle East.
The summit will bring together Directors General, CEOs, and Presidents of public service broadcasters from 18 countries across Europe, Africa, and Asia, aiming to strengthen cooperation, share strategies, and contribute to defining future agendas and priorities for public service media in the Mediterranean region.
Among the participants will be Vatican Radio, representing the broad institutional and cultural engagement in the summit. Alessandro Gisotti, Deputy Editorial Director of Vatican Media, will moderate a panel on the role of public service media in fostering peace, which will include contributions from Lisa Clark, former President of the International Peace Bureau.
As part of the broader Culture pillar of the MED Dialogues, the summit will also feature a dedicated session on cultural diplomacy in the multimedia sector, emphasizing the media’s contribution to regional dialogue and cohesion.
Held in Naples, a symbolic cultural epicentre of Mediterranean history, the summit reaffirms the commitment of public broadcasters to building a more inclusive and peaceful future through shared narratives and responsible communication.
