Peace amid life’s storms – CSMonitor.com

There is a thought-provoking passage in the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy, that says, “If you launch your bark upon the ever-agitated but healthful waters of truth, you will encounter storms. Your good will be evil spoken of. This is the cross. Take it up and bear it, for through it you win and wear the crown” (p. 254).

It’s easy to be peaceful on a beautiful sunny day, but what about during a storm? What if you’re in the storm in an open sailboat? Would you still feel at peace and worry-free?

The Way-shower, Christ Jesus, did. A brief, powerful story in the Gospel of Mark reports, “There arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm” (Mark 4:37-39).
