Rwanda’s Bishop Vincent Harolimana, of the Diocese of Ruhengeri, has told young people that Saint Carlo Acutis is a model saint who can help them navigate today’s digital world.
Fr. Fidele Mutabazi – Kigali
The prelate of Ruhengeri Diocese made the remarks over the weekend at Nyakinama Parish, located in the North of Rwanda. He spoke during the Mass commemorating the feast of Christ the King and the 40th Youth Day celebration.
A saint for the youth of today
During the same event, Bishop Harolimana unveiled a mural portrait of Carlo Acutis. He blessed the site as a special place dedicated to Carlo Acutis for the youth of the parish and diocese to pray through the intercession of this saint.
The Bishop praised the memory of Saint Carlo Acutis as a saint for the youth of today.
“Young people can also become saints following the model of Carlo Acutis. As a saint canonised on 7 September 2025 by Pope Leo XIV, this young saint is an Apostle of the digital world. However, he is also known for his love of the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary,” said Bishop Harolimana.
SIGNIS World Congress Rwanda 2026
Bishop Harolimana further encouraged young Catholic media professionals to also look up to Carlo Acutis for inspiration. He explained that the Church in Rwanda is currently preparing to host the SIGNIS World Congress for Catholic communicators, which will take place from 3 to 8 August 2026 in the capital, Kigali.
The Church in Rwanda, he said, wishes that young media practitioners use their professional media skills and proficiency in social media for Evangelization, especially of other young people who constitute the majority of social media users.
