Pope Leo XIV names Bishop Anthony Randazzo of Broken Bay, Australia, and President of the Federation of Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of Oceania, as Prefect of Dicastery Legislative Texts, the post that was held by Archbishop Filippo Iannone, until the Italian prelate was named as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops.

Pope Leo XIV appointed Bishop Anthony Randazzo as Prefect of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, the Holy See Press Office published in a bulletin on Wednesday.

Until now Bishop of Broken Bay in Australia and the President of the Federation of Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of Oceania, the Pope has also granted the prelate the personal title of Archbishop.

He succeeds Archbishop Filippo Iannone, who Pope Leo named as Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops on September 26, filling the position that was held previously by Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost from January 2023 to May 2025.

Gratitude to the Pope

Bishop Randazzo, on his official Facebook page, wrote, “I am deeply grateful to Pope Leo for the trust he has placed in me.”

He also said that it was a true joy to serve as Bishop for the Diocese, diocesan faithful, and clergy of Broken Bay.

Asking for prayers as he takes on the new challenge, Bishop Randazzo reassured, “I remain ever grateful to God, who has entrusted me with the care of His flock.”

The Bishop will remain in Broken Bay for the next three months as Apostolic Administrator before moving to Rome to begin his new role.
