Zambia’s PMS Diocesan Directors gather for the 2026 National Council Meeting

The Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Zambia have just concluded their Annual National Council Meeting for Diocesan Directors, held from 13th to 16th March 2026 at Kasisi Retreat Centre in the Archdiocese of Lusaka.

Fr. Imasiku Ngalama and Fr. Wilbroad Musonda – Lusaka

During the meeting, Bishop Edwin Mulandu, PMS National Director and Bishop of Mpika Diocese, delivered his report under the national council meeting theme: “One in Christ, United in Mission.”

Attended by 10 PMS Diocesan Directors and the National Holy Childhood Coordinator, Bishop Mulandu emphasised that, even as the country awaits the appointment of a new PMS National Director, the National Office continued to promote the missionary spirit and praxis in line with its missionary mandate across the dioceses of the Catholic Church in Zambia.

Strengthening Mmssionary initiatives

Bishop Mulandu stated, “The PMS National Office continued to carry out vital responsibilities in line with its missionary mandate.” He highlighted that these responsibilities included missionary animation in all eleven dioceses, participation in international meetings of the Pontifical Mission Societies, and the management and distribution of funds from the Universal Solidarity Fund, as directed by the PMS International Secretariat.

He also emphasised that activities such as the preparation and celebration of World Mission Sunday, the World Day of Prayer for Vocations (Vocation Sunday), and Epiphany Sunday were central to missionary animation efforts. The Prelate affirmed that these initiatives have led to an increase in contributions to the Universal Solidarity Fund in Zambia, a key achievement of the missionary animation efforts.

A Spirit of missionary cooperation

The ten Zambian PMS Diocesan Directors in attendance also presented their reports, sharing successes, challenges, and future plans for missionary animation and formation in their respective dioceses.

The Kasisi Retreat Centre provided an inspiring setting in which the Directors strengthened their missionary cooperation and fraternity through daily Holy Mass and communal prayer of Liturgy of the Hours.
