Iran’s Assembly of Experts has reached a consensus on a successor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Though there appears to have been an appointment, members say “obstacles” remain before the choice can be finalized.
The development comes as Israel’s military warned it would target any future successors to Khamenei.
At the same time in Iran, oil depots were struck in what officials described as intense U.S.–Israeli aerial bombardment.
Residents reported multiple explosions at several sites.
Strike on Kuwait City
Separately, an Iranian drone hit a government building in Kuwait overnight, sparking a large fire in Kuwait City.
The Ministry of Information said on social media that firefighting teams “managed to combat the fire” and prevent it from spreading.
Video from the scene showed a tower engulfed in flames after the strike early Sunday.
Attacks have been reported across the Gulf region as the war enters its second week.
Evacuation orders for southern Lebanese citizens
Meanwhile, the Israeli military issued new evacuation orders for residents of southern Lebanon. In a statement, the military told civilians they “must evacuate your homes immediately and head north.”
Lebanese officials reported multiple strikes overnight, including what they said was an Israeli airstrike on a hotel that killed four people.
Authorities said nearly half a million people have been displaced by the fighting so far.
