Pope Leo meets the President of Austria


Pope Leo XIV receives the President of the Republic of Austria, Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, in the Vatican.

Pope Leo XIV welcomed the President of the Republic of Austria, Mr. Alexander Van der Bellen, in the Vatican on Thursday morning.

The Austrian President subsequently met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, accompanied by the Vatican Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations, Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher.

According to a statement issued by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions at the Secretariat of State were cordial and appreciation was expressed for the good relations between the Holy See and Austria.

In particular, it noted, the positive contribution of the Catholic Church in the promotion of the common good of society was emphasized, and mention was also made of some particularly topical issues, including migration and interreligious relations.

Finally, the statement concluded, the conversation then moved on to current international issues, especially regarding situations of conflict, expressing the hope for a greater role to be played by the international community in the search for peaceful solutions.
